How does Spook Hill in Lake Wales work?
Spook Hill is a gravity hill: you stop at the white line, put the car in neutral, and the car appears to roll backward uphill. The effect is an optical illusion created by the surrounding slopes, which hide the true horizon.
The stop is free, takes about five minutes, and sits on North Wales Drive near Spook Hill Elementary School in Lake Wales.
Because it's a residential street, the courtesy move is to pull up, do one run, and clear the line for the next car.
