Downtown Park Avenue and its side streets hold the bulk of Lake Wales' independent, walkable dining. Melanie's Seafood Company sits at 120 E Park Ave. Vibbin' Vinny's is at 230 E Park Ave #24. Market Place Cafe, a breakfast-and-lunch spot with a patio, is at 20 N Market St in the Market Plaza block. The Lake Wales Family Restaurant is west of downtown at 109 FL-60 West, and Crazy Fish Bar & Grill is at 802 Henry St. For coffee and tea specifically, the Lake Wales Latte Lounge (229 E Stuart Ave) and Lady B's Tea Parlour (205 E Stuart Ave) sit a block apart downtown.

The Thirsty Dragon Tavern, at 126 N 1st St, is the anchor of Lake Wales' live-music scene downtown, home of the weekly Tuesday Musician's Open Mic alongside a rotating lineup of local songwriters and duos through the rest of the week. Duke's Brewhouse, on State Road 60 East, is the corridor's brewhouse option.

For barbecue specifically, Smokin' DJ's BBQ on East Stuart Avenue runs a counter-service, brisket-and-ribs operation on the edge of the mural district — brisket has historically run Friday and Saturday only and sells out by mid-afternoon, while dry-rubbed ribs are the steadier weekday option. Order at the counter and eat at the picnic tables under the awning; there's no table service.

Along US Highway 27 north of downtown, national chains fill in the corridor: Outback Steakhouse (23221 US-27), Panera Bread (23211 US-27), Sizzling Grill (21400 US Hwy 27), and a McDonald's at 102 FL-60. These are useful for a predictable, quick meal near the highway hotels but don't reflect what's distinctive about eating in Lake Wales.

A short drive from Lake Wales proper, Cherry Pocket Steak & Seafood Shak on Lake Pierce (3100 Canal Rd) is a long-running, rustic lakeside seafood destination worth the trip on its own. Old Man Franks, a seafood bar and restaurant on Lake Howard in nearby Winter Haven, is the current home of the regional Polk County Open Mic Night and draws visitors from Lake Wales for its sunset views over the lake; it has a dedicated place page with hours and menu highlights.
